Educational Projects Conducted in the Middle East Public and Private Sectors

“Creative Teaching to Engage Learners” Muscat, Oman (June 2014)

This project was developed and designed by AELTA-CSI, to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education Colleges of Applied Sciences (CAS) in Ibri. The content of the workshop focused on identifying multiple instructional approaches that teachers can utilize to engage students in the learning process. Participants learned how to design activities and assignments to transform the classroom from a teacher-centered to student-centered learning environment. Several methods to develop high level thinking questions were modeled to nourish engaging discussions. Various technology tools were introduced to facilitate the development of 21st century skills and maintain student motivation in learning tasks.

“Overview of Principles & Processes of Quality Assurance & Accreditation” Sohar, Oman (May 2014)

This project was developed and designed by AELTA-CSI, to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education Colleges of Applied Sciences (CAS) in Sohar. The content emphasized familiarizing participants with a general understanding of quality assurance and accreditation in context of higher education systems. Participants explored the principles, benefits and process of quality assurance and accreditation at the university level. Presentations, discussions and activities helped them gain understanding of the following topics: role of stakeholders, key quality assurance terminology, introduction to documentation, data collection/analysis and importance of data-driven strategic planning. Significant data was collected to summarize needs in the areas of quality assurance improvement specific to CAS-Sohar.

“Responding to Quality Audit Recommendations” Ibri, Oman (March 2014)


curriculum development, staff development, teacher educationThis project was developed and designed by AELTA-CSI, to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education Colleges of Applied Sciences (CAS) in Ibri. The program design and contents were aligned to needs identified by the CAS-Ibri quality assurance department. The content focused on three points: familiarization to data collection and analysis, efficiently responding to recommendations, and action planning to implement the responses. Significant data through surveys, discussions and workshop activities was collected to summarize a table of challenges that CASs are facing as they respond to quality audit recommendations. The challenges were complimented with a list of suggested solutions.

“Integrating Higher Order Thinking Skills into Everyday Lessons” Muscat, Oman (October 2012)

This program was developed and designed by AELTA-CSI for the English Language Center in Al Khuwair. Faculty and leadership attended the program, which was part of the AELTA-University of Colorado Denver partnership program. Participants were guided to:

  • Identify six levels of higher order thinking skills based on Bloom’s Taxonomy.

  • Identify levels of thinking through authentic examples of various content areas and grade levels.

  • Write high level thinking assessment questions targeting various levels of thinking with the use of specific action verbs, and question guides.

  • Creatively integrate high level thinking into lessons

  • Design student performance assessments by selecting appropriate products that target each level of thinking.

AELTA International Teaching Certificate (AELTA-ITC) (January 2011-present)

This program was designed and instructed by CSI, which included  intensive series of six levels of training in foundations of education for  120 hours of face-to-face instruction, a series of AELTA-McREL webinars, elective courses for CEUs through theUniversity of Colorado Graduate School of Continuing Education & Human Development, practicum evaluation, learning community participation, reflective teaching and presentation of an education portofolio documenting progress over an academic year.

The certificate is intended for teachers that have a bachelor’s degree, with little or no educational creditials, as well as, certified teachers that want to ensure teaching with research-based and best practices or need to earn CEUs to maintain licensure.

 “Establishing Learning Communities in Saudi Arabia” KSA – Kingdom-wide (September 2007 – present)

This project was developed and designed by CSI, it is an Affiliate Program with local institutions through a monthly publication, E-magazine platform, then CSI role was to coordinate and provide consultation for affiiate schools in hosting educational mini-conference in-services through learning community program. In addition, CSI collected and analyzed baseline data on participants reflective teaching experiences.

“Knowledge Transfer by SMS”  - KSA – Kingdom-wide (February 2006 –present)

“Pairing Practicum Observations with Reflective Teaching Sessions in the Saudi Secondary EFL Classroom” – KSA -Kingdom-wide (April –June  2009)

This project was designed by CSI, it is a program to observe secondary ELT teachers for the Ministry of Education/Tatweer schools trialing the Macmillan secondary ELT series Flying High for Saudi Arabia. The Center also trained and coordinated seven evaluators/trainers throughout KSA.  This projects was mainly funded by Macmillan Publishers.
